Children’s eyes are still developing and susceptible to many challenges in eye health and vision. At Southern Eye Associates, we take great care to diagnose and treat the conditions that affect children’s eyes, from amblyopia (lazy eye) to strabismus to eye infections, and many other conditions.
Pediatric Eye Exams – We recommend that children have their first comprehensive eye exam before they start kindergarten. After their baseline is established, they should have exams every couple of years to ensure that their eyes are developing normally. Our optometrists, Dr. Steigerwald and Dr. O’Dell, can perform these routine exams for children.
Pink Eye and Other Eye Infections – Pink Eye (or conjunctivitis) is the inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids and the white part of your eye. Causes of pink eye include infections (viral or bacterial), allergies, and irritation from something in the environment. Our ophthalmologists are prepared to treat eye infections of all types to help your child regain comfort and prevent damage to their eyes.
